I used to stay at the California hotel back when the Circa hotel across the street was still under construction. The rooms were pretty basic from what I remember when I stay there a few times. A visit this hotel frequently because I like to play at the crap table and because of the dealers. They are cool folks to play with. However like most Las Vegas casinos they have up the minimum price on shooting dice. This is no longer my first stop when I visit Vegas. I was just there last night and their minimum to shoot dice was $15 and the casino was completely empty. I counted six players at the crap table. I prefer to shoot dice at a table that has a minimum of $5 or $10. Also California which is part of the Boyd properties. Used to comp me whenever you spend a pretty decent amount of cash playing. This is no longer the case I haven't received any comps from them in years. Downtown Vegas has a few casinos that offer craps for $5 or $10 still.

Recently visited the California Casino in downtown Las Vegas for some slot play, and I was pleasantly surprised! While I didn't stay at the hotel itself, I had a great time exploring the casino floor. Yes, it's true that it's not directly on the Fremont Street Experience, but it's just a quick and easy walk away. Plus, the convenience of the indoor walkway connecting to Main Street Station casino was a huge plus! It made hopping between casinos super easy. What really stood out to me, though, was the fact that the California has slot machines on TWO floors! That's a truly unique feature in Vegas, and it added a fun, different vibe to the gaming experience. The selection of slots was good, and the atmosphere was lively. If you're looking for a casino with a unique layout, a convenient location near Fremont Street, and easy access to Main Street Station, the California Hotel and Casino is definitely worth a visit. I'd happily play there again!

We ate at the Redwood inside the California. Fine dining was outstanding! We got the Tomahawk with Lobster. Chef Henry was amazing! He made sure the food was on point! Donna was our server and she was fantastic! I definitely will be going back

Highly volatile Trash slots & the tables seem rigged with A bunch of Proposition players or shills just like the Station Casinos, and most of these local ones. I’ve been doing research on these places for the past Several years after Covid. I’ve also noticed they can control the outcome of the dice on the craps tables. The Blackjack tables also have those automatic shufflers that are rigged. Most of these casinos are in debt since Covid and struggling so they’re doing whatever they can to screw everyone and get their losses back. It’s not like how it used to be, these corporate companies have been stingy, giving us cheap quality rooms and scamming for years but they are even MORE CORRUPT now 😉

About the best part of this hotel is the room, which was clean and large enough. However, there is no weather stripping on the windows, so they let in the cold, and the noise regardless of whether they're open or not. Apparently one of the elevators in our Tower has been out for months, and another one went down while we were there. So only one elevator was operating for most of our trip. The food at the cafe was decent, for a $20 Vegas breakfast.
